TODAY’S ASPECTS:

Today could be one of those days where you push really hard to get things done, but feel that you’re thwarted at every turn. This happens if you are rooted in linear thinking or try to take the “road more traveled”. Things work out better if you don’t get pissed off when you’re rerouted by crazy detours. The unfamiliar territory may turn out to be much more interesting than your regular route. The Moon is in Capricorn today, so the inclination is to lean towards the tried and true, to get serious/use whatever resources are at hand to achieve a particular goal. The “resources”, however, may have other ideas.

Image to keep in mind:  The live flamingo croquet mallets from Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. It’s never business as usual when the parameters keep changing. Real life doesn’t always “play by the rules” and things get squirmly sometimes. Keyword: adapt.

The day blast open with Moon square Uranus at 1:15 AM EDT. I’d imagine there were many who were propelled out of bed feeling wired (or just keep waking up all night).  The rest of us probably had strange dreams about space aliens or things went ferflooey or got disconnected.  The Moon in Capricorn can be touchy but oddly blunt to begin with, so this “disconnection” theme is one to ponder today, especially with Mercury semisquare Chiron. Just because you know exactly the right thing to say to sink that dagger straight into the most vulnerable place doesn’t mean you should do it, especially if you think you’ll gain something from it.  There’s a great chance it’ll backfire. In the BlackAdder TV series, the phrase “I have a cunning plan” was always the lead-in to a series of events that generally culminated in a huge mess.  The Moon conjunct Pluto at 3:19 AM EDT followed by the Moon sextile Chiron at 5:32 AM EDT add an explosive charge to today’s heady mix of energies. Don’t bait the bear! People may be primed to “go off”, but do you really want to be in the line of fire? Before you get involved in a complicated situation, think about whether you have the time and resources (emotional and otherwise) to give. With the Moon inconjunct Jupiter at 1:10 PM EDT, people may be prone to overinflation, so don’t add oxygen to that fire. People also may be jabbering away because they feel insecure and don’t really mean half of what they say.

We’re building up to a Mars/Saturn opposition (tomorrow), so many may be feeling frustrated or have bottled so much up they’re at the bursting point. With Mars/Saturn, we’re so determined to do something or get somewhere that we ignore warning signs that the timing is not right and push ahead anyway. The blowback from this can be heavy.  Since Saturn is also opposite the Sun (and don’t forget the Moon in Capricorn), we may be so involved or feel it’s matter of our pride or reputation and that can lead us down the wrong path. Actions have consequences, so proceed accordingly.

The alternate path would be to use the Moon trine Venus aspect (4:05 PM EDT) and also call on Neptune (which is sextile Mars and trine Saturn, both flowing aspects) for assistance. If you’re feeling like you’re on a treadmill, get off it. Take a break and do something that soothes and satisfies (Venus in Taurus likes things that feel good!). Moving out of the orbit of the problem, situation, or person will give us a new perspective. Sometimes the indirect approach is better suited to circumstances. There’ may also be a hidden factor we’re not yet aware of. Neptune asks us to find the magic in the situation. Neptune with Mars and Saturn can translate to “magical/energy/working”.  Just as water will eventually wear away rock, we can wear down obstacles if we’re patient–it’s all about timing, remember?

With Pluto trining the sun and squaring Uranus in Aries, it’s all part of our personal and collective journey of transformation. There will be difficult times when we’re disheartened and feel like giving up. And at times we feel like we’re making progress, while other times we’re sure we’ve been stopped in our tracks. It’s all part of the learning process.

THE SYMBOLS:

Sabian Symbol for today’s SUN: “ A woman sprinkling flowers.”

Kozminsky Symbol for today’s SUN: “A monk on a rocky road giving drink and food to a poor traveler who has fallen by the way. A rayed anchor above his head.”

The Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is: “ CARE.”

The Keyword for the Kozminsky Symbol is: “DELIVERANCE.”

Both of today’s Symbols show one figure engaged in the process of caring for something outside him/her self. The woman in the Sabian Symbol waters flowers to help them grow and flourish, and the monk in the Kozminsky Symbol provides sustenance to a traveler who is suffering. Both Symbols relate to giving of the self/from the heart in order to assist and sustain growth. The Kozminsky Symbol ties in to today’s aspects admirably—here we have the rocky road (Mars/Saturn aspect) traveled by a wandering monk (he’s like the Fool card combined with the Hermit card from the tarot), who encounters someone in need and has compassion (today’s Neptune aspects). He provides  food and drink (the Taurus planets). This chance encounter (Uranus/wandering orbit/off the beaten path) may have been the difference between life and death (the Nodes in Taurus/Scorpio; Pluto)  for the traveler, so the word “deliverance” is appropriate.

The Sabian Symbol tells us that today we focus on nurturing activities and helping others grow and thrive. This may interfere with our “regularly scheduled programming”, interrupting planned activities, but we need to learn how to flow with the rhythms of the day (and this may be today’s giant lesson)!  This Symbol connects with the Taurus planets, especially Venus in Taurus, in the sense of using our creative skills to foster growth. We focus our attention on performing the day-to-day duties that takes us from seed stage to full flowering. We also need to be responsible (Moon in Capricorn) for whatever we’ve initiated.

Make sure attention is directed where it’s needed most. The down side to this Symbol is worrying too much or focusing on the negative (also the down side of the Moon in Capricorn), wasting time and/or being caught up in insignificant details.  This Symbol also can indicate mentorship, guardianship, teaching, and being someone who helps others grow (this brings in the Neptune aspects).

THE  DAILY DRAW:

Page of Wands / 2 of Wands

Here’s two Fire cards, and both are “early” cards, so we’re dealing with nascent creative energies. The Page of Wands shows the fragile beginnings and relates to seeds of inspiration planted (see today’s Sabian Symbol), or the impetus for our journey. The  2 of Wands sees us setting out on that quest. Both relate to taking the first tentative steps towards self-awareness, learning about what sparks or motivates us. There’s a great desire to grow and learn—we don’t know where it leads, we’re just excited about getting started. We begin from a safe place, in a child-like condition. In the Mythic Tarot, the 2 of Wands is associated with the quest of Jason (the point where he enters the cave of Chiron the centaur, who is his protector/mentor) and finds out he is the son of a king.  He discovers his birthright, which helps him plan his future.

Together, these cards relate to discovering the truth of who we are and finding our own path in life. We often learn through connections/mirroring others and through opposition (like the upcoming Mars/Saturn opposition), so our quest may involve removing obstacles, fighting “monsters” or overcoming impediments along the way. We’re tested in order to develop our strength, to use muscles we didn’t know we had.
