New Moon in Aries, 10:37 AM EDT

The Daily Astro for March 22, 2012

“Heroes” by David Bowie, with its refrain “We can be heroes…just for one day” could be today’s theme song. The Moon enters Aries at 5:57 AM EDT; it’s a New Moon (10:37 AM EDT), and it conjuncts Mercury and Uranus, while Mars opposes Chiron. This combination can fire us up emotionally, making us feel that we have what it takes to rush into a burning building to save someone (see the Kozminsky Symbol, below). There’s a nobility of spirit here, a pure rush of energy that needs to be expressed. Use this energy to try something new–stick your neck out a little bit! Things could be a little topsy-turvy today, and you might be surprised at what life throws at you (the Mercury and Uranus aspects bring change, a clamor of new ideas, and all things unexpected). The Sun also aspects Uranus, so the “shock of the new” is doubly emphasized. There’s a flash of genius in this mix. However, that Mars/Chiron aspect may bring up old fears or energy blocks that make us hesitate or get stuck marching in place instead of moving forward. Even if you don’t get far, don’t worry about it. Invoking the energy of new beginnings is a start; it will eventually propel you forward because there’s no where else to go!

Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun: “A cameo profile of a man in the outline of his country .”
Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun: “A prince saving a child from a burning castle .” The Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is “Exploitation ” and for the Kozminsky Symbol it’s “Nobility ”.

Both of these symbols highlight larger-than-life characters. The Sabian Symbol features someone whose identity is so associated with that of his country that his profile resembles (or merges) with that of his homeland. In the Kozminsky Symbol, a prince (also, obviously, someone strongly identified with his country), performs a daring rescue. Both symbols bring forth the idea of doing something for the greater good and of living up to high ideals, rather than performing for a reward or for self-glorification.

Tarot Enhancer/Antidote: Empress/6 of Pentacles
These two ask us to unveil our gifts. What do we have, or know (The 6 of Pentacles is associated with Mercury in Taurus) that can help others grow? The concept of generosity and generous counsel or teaching is emphasized here, and the ability to know when the time is right to begin. This combination speaks very strongly to me of cycles of the planet, of the growth of civilization and society, based on understanding the earth and its rhythms and acting in a harmonious way with others to benefit all–it seems to reflect the Native American ethos. As Venus is associated with the Empress, the idea of love and gentle nurturing should be behind our actions, in tandem with any material gifts we may also be offering. The values and reasoning behind our actions are important, too–why do we give? Do we expect to gain anything in return–if so, what?
