The Daily Astro for April 1, 2013

TODAY’S ASPECTS:

The last few days of March left many of us feeling that we were running the gauntlet. March didn’t exactly go out like a lamb, as we were blasted by an array of complicated (and intense) planetary aspects.  We’re still feeling the effects of yesterday’s emotional tsunamis (Venus and the Sun both squared Pluto yesterday.)

Today the main aspect that occurs while most are awake is Sun in Aries sextile Jupiter in Gemini (8:24 AM EDT). Those of you with planets or placements in fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) or air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) signs will finally feel a bit of r-e-l-i-e-f  after that long slog that was also known as the end of March. Even if you’re not a fire or air sign, this combo is a mind-blower, opening a window to new vistas and asking us to take a step forward into the future. This energy is optimistic, enthusiastic, and very open to new concepts and ideas.

The Moon’s in Jupiter-ruled Sagittarius, which reiterates today’s theme of expansive openness. Travel will appeal, even if it’s only a short tour around your neighborhood. Get out and meet or talk to others, if you have the opportunity. Just connecting with someone else will raise your spirits. On a slightly cautionary note, this combo may incite foot-in-mouth disease, as the Aries tendency towards directness combines with the Sagittarian/Jupiterian penchant for discussing “big” ideas in a sometimes over-zealous fashion. You may know you’re right, but try not to tell others that they’re idiots for not sharing your opinions.  We may also find that today’s April Fool stunts are particularly inventive, as people go all out (Jupiter doesn’t do things small-scale). Try not to be an April Fool!

Since we’re dealing with a Void-of-Course Moon today until the Moon enters Capricorn tomorrow at 1:35 AM EDT, it’d be a good idea to tap into the philosophical and spiritual side of today’s the Moon in Sagittarius/Sun sextile Jupiter setup. Meditation, travel planning and communicating with others at a distance are good ways to make use of today’s energy. The only negative is we may be interested in so many things that we scatter energy and don’t finish what we start. Write down your ideas; put your notes aside for further elaboration or implementation on another day so they don’t slip away.

THE SYMBOLS:

Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun: “A flock of wild geese.”

Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun: “A Druid cutting the acorn from the sacred oak with a sickle of silver.”

The Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is: “Insouciance.”

The Keyword for the Kozminsky Symbol is: “Roaming.”

Today’s Symbols and keywords have a “run wild, run free” feel to them. The Sabian Symbol highlights a flock of wild geese, and the Kozminsky keyword is “roaming”, which fits perfectly with today’s expansive, action-oriented astrological energies.  We’re seeking a panoramic view (the kind geese enjoy while flying high in the sky).  And after feeling boggy-soggy for the past few weeks, we just want a little lighthearted fun now. ( “Does anybody remember laughter?”, in the immortal words of one R. Plant.) We want to move freely with no encumbrances, travel far afield, and just get a move on.  Think of all those rock songs where some guy’s talking about movin’ on down the highway/yodeling  “Sorry baby, I’m a ramblin’ man” and you’ve got it.

Both Symbols are also connected to nature or feature natural elements.  The Kozminsky Symbol relates to magic and ancestral wisdom (The Druid) “wandering and many strange adventures” in “worlds spiritual and material”. There’s an emphasis on change (the silver sickle relates to the Moon) and the progression of knowledge from fledgling (acorn) to mature (the oak tree) as experience is gained and a philosophy of life is decided upon. The tree spirit (and GreenMan imagery) speaks to our connection to the earth and all that grows and lives upon it.

The Sabian Symbol highlights movement, travel, freedom, and soaring above everyday limitations and routines. It indicates that many of us today will be feeling restless, with a desire to take off for foreign climes, to leave responsibilities behind and enjoy a blast of total freedom.  Since geese travel in tight formations, nature’s choreography, the down side of this Symbol relates to a form of “groupthink”. We may worry too much about what other people think or are reluctant to break away from the consensus. There’s also a hint here of running away from our responsibilities in order to escape things we just don’t want to deal with.

Today’s a good day to cultivate a positive attitude and take a break from the usual routine in order to shake things up. Allowing space for change and random events can increase our luck (a Jupiter keyword), as we  find ourselves in the right place at the right time. Don’t underestimate the importance of varying your routine. Don’t overschedule yourself to the point where there’s no room for joy or those “magic accidents” that take us in new directions.

THE  DAILY DRAW:

6 of Pentacles / Queen of Pentacles

“Lady Luck”. Generosity given and received.  Enriching other, we enrich ourselves–it’s important to share your prosperity. There’s an innate understanding of what the other person really needs. Both cards are earth cards, so this energy is about growth, the earth, fertility, manifestation and the creation of wealth and prosperity in all realms. This combination is very empathetic and has the ability to understand completely what others are feeling, not just in an intellectual way, but from their very core.

This could quite literally be a female benefactor, someone with an earthy or Taurean nature. It’s giving from the heart, with love and concern.  It can be a generous offer, a raise, or being appreciated for who you are. Watch for any tendencies towards trying to “buy” others with gifts or enticements and a tendency to use people as a means to an end.
