The Daily Astro for February 27, 2013
by Valerie Sylvester
The Moon enters Libra at 8:02 AM EST today, and since Libra’s an air sign, it may lend a note of cooperative detachment today that gives a new perspective on our recent Waterworld Pisces planet tsunami. In the earlier part of the day, adjustment aspects to Libra’s ruler Venus and then to Pisces’ ruler Neptune bring to mind the lyrics from a Cheap Trick song: “Surrender, surrender/But don’t give yourself away.” The Libra/Pisces combo, in order to make others feel better or keep the peace, may be a little too quick to opt for “go along” people-pleasing techniques. It’s one thing to cooperate in order to accomplish a goal or to maintain important relationships; it’s another thing entirely to sacrifice yourself or allow yourself to be taken advantage of. All of this may crystallize around 2:17 PM EST, when the Sun in Pisces conjuncts Chiron.
Those of you interested in tarot may want to pull out your Hierophant and Hanged Man cards and ponder the significance of voluntary sacrifice, letting go of preconceptions, learning the art of healing, and highlights the idea of sacred wounds and the reason behind suffering. This conjunction also says that we need to learn to read the oracles and be alert to all the signs and symbols that coalesce around us.
This energy reminds me of Odin on the World Tree, receiving the runes:
I know that I hung on a windy tree
nine long nights,
Wounded with a spear, dedicated to Odin,
myself to myself,
on that tree of which no man knows
from where its roots run.
No bread did they give me nor a drink from a horn,
downwards I peered;
I took up the runes, screaming I took them,
then I fell back from there.
(From The Havamal, Carolyne Larrington translation)
On another note, with this combo I am curious as to whether we’ll hear more news soon about the Pope’s resignation and what changes or reforms may eventually occur in the Catholic Church as a result of this crack in the mortar of church bureaucracy and standard operating practice.
The influence of Monday’s Full Moon energy is still apparent. With Chiron in Pisces, Saturn in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn all connected by flowing aspects, one of the items on the agenda is to take a look at the cracks in our own foundation, acknowledge them, and either fix the problems or move to a more secure location. It’s suddenly clear to us that we can’t continue the way we’ve been going. Adjustments must be made. Here’s where we learn our lessons. Mars in Pisces is trine the North Node, so there’s a lot of “spiritual reconstruction” going on, too. We may come into contact with healers or other dynamic people who help guide us towards the path of transformation.
Later today, the Moon opposes Uranus in Aries (8:11 PM EST) and trines Jupiter in Gemini (9:35 PM EST). These are expansive, exploratory aspects so take advantage of them and do something different; let your mind run wild. There’s a “higher mind” theme here, so connect with people who inspire you or encourage you to move past your limits. When we’re looking for something new and different, we’re moving out of our comfort zone, more open to new possibilities, so don’t play it safe tonight. These aspects could make for a fun party, too, but put away the breakable objects before the guests show up!
Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun: “An aviator in the clouds.”
Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun: “A man sweeping together quicksilver which has fallen from a dish and has scattered in all directions.”
The Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is: “OBSERVATION”.
The Keyword for the Kozminsky Symbol is: “TEACHING”.
Today’s Symbols feature images that relate to air signs, which is fitting as the Moon has moved to Libra. In the Kozminsky Symbol, quicksilver is Mercury, which relates to the mind, communications, learning and the ability to nimbly navigate (like the aviator in today’s Sabian Symbols). An aviator also has the advantage of being able to distance him/her self from the world below and see things from a different perspective.
The Kozminsky Symbol emphasizes a quick and alert mind that is seeking knowledge and wishes to assimilate, understand and synthesize what’s been collected in order to present it to others. As the aviator in the Sabian Symbol is set apart, so is the character in the Kozminsky Symbol–there’s a learning curve here, a need to set time aside to gather and assess information. Teaching is a very Jupiterian profession, and tonight’s Moon/Jupiter aspect can open us up to new teachings that expand our world. Being an aviator requires a willingness to leave earth behind and venture into new territories, which describes today’s Moon/Uranus opposition. And don’t forget, sometimes we need a co-pilot (the Moon is in Libra, sign of partnerships) for these ventures!
The Sabian Symbol also relates to seeing things from a global or more holistic point of view, being curious, open to exploration and open-minded. It’s all about perspective. Sometimes when we remove ourselves from a situation, things become clear. Distance may be required in order to attain full clarity. On the down side, this can also indicate recklessness or an inability to get your head out of the clouds (impracticality), recklessness or trying to escape your responsibilities.
Today could be a day where we finally fit all the pieces of the puzzle together after taking a step back for a more inclusive view. Look for assistance from teachers or guides, sudden flashes of insight, or external sources. It may be a day where we’re called upon to teach what we know. Since we feel deeply about the subject, we can teach it well. It’s important to get the right information in the hands of those who can make the best use of it. Maybe we’ll hear of a promising new invention or discovery today!
THE DAILY DRAW:
The Star / Queen of Cups
One word for this combination: “HEALING”. We’ve been through it with the Star, and have come out the other side with hope intact. The Star is associated with Aquarius and in the Mythic Tarot, with the myth of Pandora. Everything’s out of the box now (including our thinking), but there’s still promise in the midst of chaos. It’s time to look to the stars (Uranus, ruler of Aquarius, is associated with astrology). The Queen of Cups is generally affiliated with another fixed sign, Scorpio, so our experiences have open the floodgates but challenged long-held views that we’re reluctant to change. We’ve been initiated into the mysteries and are learning to see under the surface. Chaos may have broken us open, but it’s also deepened us as human beings. We learn to detach from negative emotions or reroute that energy in a new direction. We’ve added levels of complexity and we’re learning to “decipher the code”. This combination is very magnetic and our powers of attraction are high. Insights may be sudden or shocking, like a bolt from the blue or a lighthouse beacon in the midst of a storm.
