The Daily Astro for October 24, 2012
Today’s a really lovely yet oddly uncomfortable day. The two don’t seem to go together, but what’s happening today is that we’re absorbing a bit of the old karmic bleed-through and are starting to see what’s underneath the surface, how things really work, how we’re all connected. Sometimes this reveals things we’re not exactly comfortable with!
The Sun’s in Scorpio, and the Moon enters Pisces at 7:00 AM EDT, then conjuncts Neptune at 7:49 AM, moves to trine the Sun and Saturn, conjuncts Chiron and finally, sextiles Pluto. We’re going to get a whiff of the inexorable, the inevitable, and a snootful of cosmic perfume (see the Kozminsky Symbol for today). On some level we may feel connected to everyone and everything on a very elevated level, but with the fixed intensity of the Sun in Scorpio and the Moon’s trine to Saturn and that sextile to Pluto, we become divine detectives and finally “break the code”. Patterns are revealed; we see the bones under the skin. Since our normal boundaries are washed away, we learn to forgive ourselves and others because we see what’s normally been hidden, what’s been broken or left behind that’s crying out for understanding. Mercury, the planet that is related to communication and messages, likes nothing better than relaying information (and don’t forget one of Mercury’s guises was Hermes, who walked between the worlds of the living and the dead). Mercury’s contacts today with Jupiter and the asteroids Pallas and Vesta tell us that we can unearth the big picture by paying attention to the details that lie close to home. The key here is healing through knowledge and nourishing ourselves from within, banking our own home fires.
P.S.: Try to be extra-nice to people today, especially those who are broken or hurting.
Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun: “A broken bottle and spilled perfume .”
Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun: “Two men deeply engrossed in a game of chess .”
Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is: “PERMEATION.”
The Keyword for the Kozminsky Symbol is “COMPREHENSION.”
What an amazing combination of symbols! As noted above, the Sabian Symbol, the broken bottle with perfume wafting out symbolizes what’s left behind, things that linger or lurk beneath our conscious awareness, and anything with a “history”. (Check out a version of the song “These Foolish Things” as sung by Bryan Ferry for a musical rendition of this theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aTv5AwXH6pE ).
This Symbol relates to past lives, mysteries that retain their power, what we leave behind (our legacy), and another facet of this Symbol is related to the ability to sacrifice for others–to pour out our essence, remain true to our essential “notes” (as all perfumes are a blend of particular “notes” and blend together to create a unique scent). This Symbol can indicate that we’re thinking about the past, about those who have passed on, or about things that have now vanished. It’s a great time to delve into your karmic past. A great perfume can often bypass our conscious senses and associate itself with a time, a place, or a person, and each time we encounter it, we are triggered to remember. Today’s astrological combination echoes this theme–it’s a time to explore our past, our history, to release what needs to let go (but keep the good memories) and to have compassion for our former selves and for others.
The point is not to get stuck in the past, but to process what has happened and use what we’ve learned to make us better people. Someone who’s suffered or lost often becomes more open to the problems of other people (Pisces/Neptune) and this is the first step towards healing, by journeying through our own wounds (Chiron). The next step is to move beyond reminiscence, avoid wallowing, and move forward with the knowledge gained.
This brings us to the Kozminsky Symbol–men playing chess. This highlights the idea that we’re beginning to understand the underpinnings of our lives–there is a pattern underlying things, and if we apply ourselves we learn how to negotiate, how to make the right moves. We must stay focused and concentrate–it’s serious business and requires work–the Sun/Saturn conjunction early tomorrow morning reminds us of that. This is a symbol that relates to using our higher intelligence to figure things out, to solve problems and decipher the deeper mysteries of our lives. Bring in that Mercury power–there’s nothing Mercury likes better than solving riddles! There’s a great deal of intensity now (Sun and Mercury are in Deep Pondering mode in Scorpio) and the stakes of this game are high, but right now we’re being presented with the perfect opportunity to make a giant evolutionary leap in consciousness–so pay attention to what’s going on around you right now, the clues are hiding in plain sight.

Today’s Card is: THE SOLAR DEITY
Here comes the Sun! This card illustrates today’s theme by telling us that all things will be illuminated. Anything we have hidden (or hidden behind) will be exposed, all motivations are revealed, dark corners light up, all in order to release the power within that’s been held back. The Sun’s in Scorpio, so the energetic focus is on transformation and burning away the dross to release the essence, the way the broken bottle releases the perfume scent. The Sun is also associated with all forms of the Sun God found in many religions and belief systems as well as the powers of prophecy and healing, another of today’s themes. The Moon in Pisces makes many connections today, linking us to our collective past, present and future. We’re able to see and absorb more now. We’re being asked to claim our power (Sun) and shine our light. What is it you are burning to do? What’s your greatest passion? That’s where your power lies.
