The Daily Astro for June 20, 2012

The Daily Astro for June 20, 2012

Welcome to the Summer Solstice! The Sun enters Cancer at 7:09 PM EDT and the Moon remains in Cancer all day, giving us a double blast of water energy. An outer planet tag team of Uranus and Pluto make discordant aspects to the Moon, while Venus forms an anxious connection with Pluto–all this before 8:00 AM. How many of you had wild, intense dreams last night? These aspects, plus Mercury in Cancer square Saturn in Libra (and if you count the asteroid Eris, Queen of Discord, we can add her in here, for more fun), can mean that we may have to deal with the spectrum of power/control issues today. Today’s topics include: disagreements, the use of manipulative words, disruptive behavior, hidden agendas, and confronting explosive issues in relationships. Watch for passive-aggressive or plain ol’  aggressive-aggressive types.  And don’t be one of those types yourself –don’t get triggered. With emotions heightened by the New Moon and the Sun and Moon in Cancer, things that normally wouldn’t set us off might flip the switch, so keep your cool even when the temperature’s rising. At 8:55 PM EDT, Venus in Gemini sextiles Uranus in Aries, bringing in a playful, experimental energy, so try something new and get out of your rut a little (with the Cancer planets, it’s probably better to have fun at home or someplace you feel cozy and comfortable, at least for today.)

Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun: “Bathing beauties . ”
Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun: “A maiden bound to a stake smiling at an angel. Near-by lie three dead bats.”

The Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is “Charm”.
The Keyword for the Kozminsky Symbol is “Stumbling”.

Today’s Kozminsky Symbol reminds me of a cross between the old silent “Perils of Pauline” flicks,  a vampire movie, and the story of Joan of Arc. It certainly keys into the feeling of the day’s astrological aspects. We may feel tied down by forces outside our control and restricted or held back.  But at least the bats are transitioning into something, maybe just into dead bats, and there’s an angel floating around. Maybe we’ve finally figured out how to eliminate the emotional vampires from our lives and are looking towards a brighter future, even if in the present it seems doubtful that we’ll get there. This one relates to the Moon and Venus (women, love, psychic and emotional energies) in stressful aspect to Pluto (regeneration, destruction, transformation), so here’s our cue that something within us needs to die in order for us to be free, and until then we’re “chained and bound” by our limited vision of reality. The Sabian Symbol echoes this, pointing out that we need to use our gifts (charm and beauty in the higher sense of making the world more beautiful, of inner beauty). The warning here is not to get wrapped up in appearances, but to really see what lies underneath. Things may not be what they seem and in light of today’s aspects, some of those charming people may be hiding behind their charisma or using it to get what they want, regardless of their effect on others.

Tarot Enhancer/Antidote: 8 of Swords/10 of Pentacles

Here’s that bound woman again-the 8 of Swords (see comments, above, on the Kozminsky Symbol of the day). Well, this certainly is beginning to look like a theme!  Here’s the paralysis of not wanting to make a decision that we know has to be made. It’s an 8, so that brings in the power and transformation vibe of Pluto. We’re trying to avoid something we know won’t be easy and the worry, repetitive or compulsive thought patterns, fear and mental stress (the Mercury square Saturn aspect mixed in with the Venus/Pluto aspect) stop us in right our tracks. We may be afraid to move for fear of rocking the boat in a relationship, or it could be a dread of being judged by our family or those in authority. It could also be inherited thought patterns related to feeling we’re never “enough”. What this combination is telling us is that we need to break the pattern, make the move, and once we do we will find the reward that we’ve already earned. This is an important point, as once we break the impasse, we are free to finish what we’ve started and fulfill our own particular destiny, what we were born to do, and that leads to success and stability on all levels. Once we are established, we can help others who are going through what we’ve experienced.
