TODAY’S ASTRO:
“My brain is flaming
And I don’t know which way to go, yeah”
–“Burning Love” by Dennis Linde, sung by Elvis Presley

Well, today we’re a hunka hunka burning SOMEthing, and it could be love, as the Moon enters Leo at 2:50 AM EDT and gives a jolt to the heart center. And that jumpsuit Elvis is wearing in the video sure has that Leo “Hey, admire my bling!” panache.
Fire’s our element today. The Moon, as noted, is in Leo, and the Sun, Venus, Mars and Uranus are all clustered in Aries. Asteroids Hygeia and Pallas are in Aries now, too. Those of us with tons of fire in their chart (and I speak from experience here), know that it’s easy to get excited, “fired up”, inspired and crazy energetic under the fire influence. It’s also easy to fly off the handle, throw so much energy into things that we burn out, and lose interest after the initial adrenaline rush has coursed through, so we go searching for the next passion blast.
We’re dealing with a cyclonic mix of energies today. The Leo Moon trines Venus and the Sun, both in Aries, so we get all heated up about love. Whether it’s love for another person or we’re just really intense about ourselves, with all that Aries/Leo influence, remains to be seen! Try to send some of that hot stuff out to others, don’t keep it all to yourself! Energy healing, whether hands-on or the distance variety, should be quite effective today.
The elephant in the room is the Mars-Uranus conjunction in Aries at 2:17 PM EDT. Think Aries Frankenstein. Something gets shocked into existence with a big jolt to the cranium. Think of Elvis on stage, “burning burning burning and nothing can cool me”. Mars is often a trigger for events, and in a posse with Uranus, it’s about shock and awe. In Aries it highlights the need for independence, freedom, with a focus on all things unique and new. It’s not exactly a calm influence and can indicate shocking or destructive events that occur to clear the decks for the future.
This combo can relate to accidents or sudden, destructive events, so keep your antennae up for disturbances in the field and remember to duck and cover if necessary. Avoid belligerent types who try to hassle you, looking for a fight. Some people will really be “set off” by this energy if they don’t know how to deal with it in a constructive manner. In-your-face-weirdness can surface today. Try not to be surprised by anything. Look at it as a break, a creative opportunity, a happy accident. Things can take strange twists, but use that to your advantage. Stay alert for new opportunities, it’s not a day for snoozing. This influence can also be very inspiring, as we’re completely open to new ideas. Don’t stay in a rut today, try something new. Express yourself. What is it that makes you unique? What can you do that nobody else can do?
And it’s not just about Mars-Uranus, because Uranus is currently squaring Pluto in Capricorn, so this means trigger-happy Mars is also squaring Pluto. Talk about a finger on the detonator button! This is one reason for that warning about accidents. Things could go atomic very quickly under these influences. All kinds of breakthroughs can occur–or breakdowns. This set-up can indicate explosions, earthquakes or other volatile world events that alter the course of many people.
After all this electrification, you’ll be glad to hear that things calm down a bit later in the day as the Moon trines Uranus and Mars and sextiles Jupiter from 5:38 PM through 10:06 PM EDT. Take what you’ve learned or discovered today and find a way to integrate this new energy into your life. Enlarge and expand your horizons but opening the door to things you might never have considered before being blasted out of your boots. There’s bound to be a revelation or two to ponder when it quiets down. Aries people are often intellectuals or voracious readers–they like to keep their minds occupied. Today we all get a taste of how they feel every day, that “brain fire” that keeps them on the move, looking for more information/inspiration to feed the furnace.
Call it a day early if you can. At 11:28 PM EDT the Moon in Leo squares Saturn in Scorpio and it’s like that crabby neighbor who always calls the cops whenever someone has their yearly party and dares to stay up past 8 PM. It might even be a relief, though, as we’re all partied out anyway, after today’s excitement. It can help rein in some of the raging chaos energy that’s been zipping around today and take it all down a notch. It also begins a Void-of-Course period, which reinforces the “shut down”, time-out theme.
THE SYMBOLS:
Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun: “A cameo profile of a man in the outline of his country.”
Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun: “A prince saving a child from a burning castle.”
The Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is: “EXPLOITATION ”.
The Keyword for the Kozminsky Symbol is “NOBILITY ”.
The Kozminky Symbol neatly summarizes today’s astrological aspects. The Moon’s in Leo, and Leo is associated with royalty (prince). This prince, in additional to being noble by title, is noble in his actions as well, as we can see by his heroic rescue effort. Kozminsky notes that this degree is connected to Mars, which is the ruler of Aries, and that’s where all the action is today. Aries and Leo are also fire signs (castle on fire). The prince displays leadership qualities (Leo) and the ability to leap into action in emergency situations (Aries). The fire taking down the castle connects with today’s volatile Mars/Uranus/Pluto aspects and indicates that we may need to “step up” as things explode around us. The Keyword also refers to nobility of spirit, and the ability to think of others in need rather than focus narrowly on our own situation, even in challenging times.
The Sabian Symbol expresses some of the flip side of the Aries and Leo energy, taking us to the opposite signs of Libra and Aquarius. There’s a focus on the “other” rather than the self, on the group or collective, the impersonal rather than the personal. The man in the cameo is a profile, so we don’t see all his features. He’s an icon and is seen by others in association with his country, as a source of inspiration (here’s where the fire elements come in), bravery, hope, or achievement. This is someone who reflects the highest aspirations of a particular group, nation, or organization. The focus is on achieving group consensus or furthering large-scale goals.
On the down side, this can illustrate someone who is known for negative or inappropriate behavior or actions, or one who takes on the worst traits of the collective he/she belongs to, or who over-identifies with a system that’s bankrupt or corrupt. It can indicate stereotyping others, or taking personal credit for group efforts. This Symbol tells us we need to find a balance between our own personal desires and the needs of the group.
THE DAILY DRAW:
2 of Pentacles / The Fool
“Time’s Up! Let’s Go!” No matter what doubts we’ve had, or how we’ve weighed our options, it’s time to take that leap of faith. Given the planetary aspects of the past few months, we may have felt bogged down, unable to move forward with our plans. There were too many ‘No” votes, not enough “Yes”. We’re finally getting to the “Yes”, but it requires courage. As noted above, fire energy is rampant today. It’s a real boon to those who don’t normally put themselves forward or take that liberating first step. The Fool energy is similar to Aries energy–both push forward even if they’re not sure what the end result will be. They just know that if they are going to grow, they have to make a move. Marching in place is not an option. It takes courage and a pioneering spirit to begin the journey away from the known to the unknown.
