The Daily Astro for January 17, 2013
by Valerie Sylvester
Today’s wonkiest stress aspects occur early in the day (Moon/Pluto at 5:38 AM EST, Moon/Venus at 6:37 AM EST, Moon/Saturn at 7:02 AM EST). As most of us will be a-snooze at these times (or groggily rising to greet the day), we probably won’t remember too much except that our dreams unsettlingly resembled a particularly dark revenge/espionage best-seller! If you remembered your dreams, go back later today and see if anything that occurred today mirrored anything from your dreams. You may just unearth something!
The Moon remains in “Can’t drive 55″ Aries today. The aspect du jour is Venus in Capricorn sextile Saturn in Scorpio. (Venus also joins Juno today at 11 degrees Capricorn). Both of these aspects favor directing our attention to long-term relationships, keeping in touch with old friends, elders, and anyone we trust to give us good advice based on solid experience. The old is new again here–we may find new ways to incorporate old things (repurposing antique items, recycling, upcycling). Venus gives the artist’s touch and with Juno & Saturn, may inspire us to redecorate or come up with new ways to present ourselves–whatever we do will have a “classic” feel. Like the scent of a much-loved perfume worn by a relative who’s passed, today’s aspects may call forth memories of the past, serving as doorways into another dimension.
Later in the day, a note of whimsy creeps in as the Moon aspects Neptune at 6:25 PM EST and we get a final burst of energy at 9:28 PM EST as the Moon sextiles Mars, which can rekindle enthusiasm for whatever we started earlier in the day but didn’t finish.
Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun: “ A mountain pilgrimage.”
Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun: “A woman, neatly dressed, seated on an old-fashioned chair, looking out of a cottage window on to a pretty little garden. Her face expresses pleasant contemplation.”
The Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is: “Perseverance”.
The Keyword for the Kozminsky Symbol is “ Meditating”.
The Kozminsky Symbol captures the essence of today’s Venus/Saturn sextile. The old-fashioned chair and neat dress style (Venus in Capricorn is presentable, with classic flair) of the woman looking at a pretty garden (Venus), is in a contemplative mode (here comes the Scorpio influence–she’s going deeper). Here we’re given the portrait of a woman who knows how to maintain a home, to keep the hearth fires burning and create beauty around her (the Empress/Venus/Juno archetype), but she has other dimensions as well. Kozminsky notes that this image also speaks of “psychic powers and prophetic foresight regarding future events”. There’s a level of comfort in and attunement to the environment and the natural world that allows easy access to other dimensions.
The Sabian Symbol features a mountain (remember the symbol for Capricorn is the mountain goat) as focal point for a spiritual quest. The keyword, “perseverance”, is also a Saturn/Capricorn word. Persistence is highlighted here, and the presence of a larger goal that serves as a guiding light even through difficult times. A pilgrimage usually involves a pilgrim, or seeker, doing something difficult in order to achieve enlightenment or show dedication to a belief system that is valued. Like the mountain goat, the pilgrim learns how to negotiate a difficult path in order to reach the summit. This Symbol tells us not to give up too soon; put one foot in front of the other and you’ll get there. We may also learn from those who have gone before, who leave markers on the path for us to find, to encourage us to keep going.
THE DAILY DRAW:
The Sun/ 3 of Pentacles
Here’s the 3 of Pentacles, the Venus in Capricorn card (perfect for a day where Venus in Capricorn favorably aspects the ruler of Capricorn, Saturn, now domiciled in Scorpio). Combined with the Sun (vitality, our essence, the sign Leo), we’re being told that by letting our light shine we will attract what we need. Venus is the essence of attraction, and in Capricorn, it takes on a practical coloration, so this is also about being able to make our ideas and visions manifest. What are your special talents? Offers may be coming in from people who appreciate what you do and are willing to compensate you for it. Stability and reliability are valued and rewarded here. Here’s where you establish your reputation as someone with a particular skill-set. It’s your time to shine, so open the windows and let the light rush in. Things become clearer and we can settle into a creative rhythm, knowing we’re in tune with cosmic cycles now.
