The Daily Astro for January 7, 2013

The Daily Astro for January 7, 2013

by Valerie Sylvester

I took about a month off from The Daily Astro due to being totally astonished, not to mention exhausted, by the events of the rather (ahem) dynamic year of 2012. I thought I’d try for a calm December, since the rest of the year was so damn stressful. I also wanted to enjoy the holiday season. December turned out to be the Grand Finale of a real boot-in-the ass year, so I’m glad for the time off–it was sorely needed! Now I’m back and want to wish you all  happy new year with hopes for a generally fantastic 2013.  For myself, I’m hoping for less “rock-‘em-sock-‘em” action (2012 made me want to pull the covers over my head and hide), but I doubt that’s going to happen. I just thought I’d put it out there to reverberate through the ether!

The day starts off with a promise of harmony as the Moon in Scorpio sextiles the Sun in Capricorn, so at least we may get up in a decent mood with a desire to accomplish a few things on our “to do” list.  Hold that thought, because the rest of today’s aspects aren’t as sunny. Later in the day we have to deal with a passel of these ornery aspects. The Big Kahuna is Mars in Aquarius square Saturn in Scorpio. Those of you who, like me, have a Mars/Saturn aspect in your birth chart know that this aspect is often related to  TIMING. Sometimes we want to go when we should stop; at other times we hold back when the time is right to get a move on!  This aspect helps us develop patience and teaches us the lesson of right timing and of directing our energies properly. With Mars and Saturn in fixed signs, we may find that people are very invested in their own ideas and plans and just aren’t flexible. This can lead to frustration and an anger avalanche.  The rest of today’s aspects don’t exactly help us out much, either. The Moon gets tangled up with Uranus, Mars and Pluto, so some of those frustrated people are going to act out, throw tantrums, be bitchy and resentful, refuse to cooperate and just generally lose their shit. Remember today’s theme: timing is all.  Think long-term and wait it out. Spend some time working on your blueprint for the future and don’t get thrown by random craziness.  Try to find common ground; be the cooperative one. This may require some self-discipline, but that’s another of the lessons the  Mars/Saturn aspect is trying to teach.

Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun: “A girl surreptitiously bathing in the nude.”
Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun: “Cupid holding a broken arrow in his right hand and a miniature anchor in his left”.
The Keyword for the Sabian Symbol is:  “Immersion” .
The Keyword for the Kozminsky Symbol is:  “Imparting”.

Today’s Sabian Symbol ties in to the Moon in Scorpio as the girl is “surreptitiously” bathing. This Symbol is about stripping down to the essence and being reborn/renewed (Scorpio themes) through some sort of purification ritual. This may mean we have to put ourselves in uncomfortable situations or feel that we are being “exposed” or revealed when it seems that we’re not ready. The feeling of being stripped down and “not ready for prime time” relates to today’s Mars/Saturn aspect. We’re about to enter a brave new world (Mars), but we’re not yet comfortable; we feel we haven’t had enough experience to make it work (the square to Saturn). We’re not quite comfortable in our own skin!

This Symbol tells us we need to get back to basics and immerse ourselves (note the key word, above) totally. The Kozminsky Symbol reminds me of the Elvis Costello song “My Aim is True”–it popped into my head while I was reading the description. This Cupid hits his target (and hard–note the broken arrow). Anchors symbolize both hope and being stalwart or steadfast, holding firm and establishing a foothold, so this Symbol encompasses the positive sides of both Mars and Saturn. Mars energy sallies forth to achieve its objective, while Saturn energy solidifies and holds things together to build a foundation for the future. The Symbol tells us to aim high and have faith in our ideals. There’s also an idealistic, romantic side to the Symbol. Cupid’s arrows inflame the heart of the person he strikes. Both Symbols harmonize to the same theme: open yourself up, throw yourself into something you care deeply about, don’t worry about what others may think, let yourself go–try something new, something you love–something that ignites your soul passions.

3 of Swords/Tower

Here’s a cheerful combination, eh? Its as serious as a heart attack. (Incidentally, don’t let yourself get so stressed out or frustrated today that you bring one on! ) It’s also appropriate, given some of today’s astrological aspects. Here’s Mars blasting away at the Tower and taking down established structures (Saturn) that need to fall. This process started in the 3 of Swords, where all was revealed. The wound has been inflicted and it’s bleeding out. This is where healing starts, and it’s why everything has to crash to the ground. We need to clear out the poisonous residues left over from periods of pain and loss and immerse ourselves in the promise of the new.

Think about the Sabian Symbol, the woman, reborn, bathing in the water, and the Kozminsky Symbol, with Cupid taking a straight shot to the heart (3 of Swords). Something needs to be cracked open, revealed and released in order for us to become whole again.
