The Daily Astro for July 20, 2012

The Moon is in Leo today. Yesterday’s New Moon at 27 Cancer squared Saturn in Libra while Mars was coming off its opposition to Uranus and square Pluto. These intense energies are difficult to negotiate; the wise path is to look for balance, equality and to use your intensity and strength to build and fight for the rights of others; the negative path leads to violence and destruction. We got a glimpse of the latter as we learned about the horrific attack on the Aurora, Colorado movie theater where the Batman film “The Dark Knight Rises” was playing. (It may be worthwhile to point out here that the Batman archetype involves a troubled socialite whose parents were murdered by criminals. He learns to deal with his rage by becoming a masked avenger who takes on the criminal underworld of the city.) This story is Mars/Uranus/Pluto in its essence, with the impetus being the death of his parents (Moon in Cancer/Pluto in Capricorn—Cancer/Capricorn is the “family axis” in astrology).

Today’s energies shift and the mood lightens as the Moon sextiles Venus. People make an effort to express love and connect emotionally with others. It’s a good day for conversation, making or strengthening social connections, and for telling others how you feel about things (in the earlier part of the day). After 9 PM EDT as Jupiter connects with Saturn and the Moon is in uneasy aspect to Pluto, things get more complicated and we may have to adjust to new realities as people test our patience or overstep their authority. If you’re starting to become obsessed with anyone or anything, take a break and look at the reason you’re so attached.

Sabian Symbol for today’s Sun “A Greek muse weighing newborn twins in golden scales.”

Kozminsky Symbol for today’s Sun:  “A man in a prison cell, a ray of light flowing through the bars, on which a little bird stands singing.”

The Sabian Symbol keyword is “Value.”

The Kozminsky Symbol keyword is “Obstruction”.

Both Symbols mirror the astrological aspects. The Sabian Symbol emphasizes the dual aspects (twins/Gemini), and Venus (value, worth, beauty) is in Gemini, as is Jupiter (king of the gods), and Saturn (what’s it worth?) is in Libra (the scales/balancing). The emphasis is on using our “higher sight” to determine our direction and values. The image resonates with myth and also reminds me of ancient Egyptian gods. What’s a soul worth (newborn—the soul enters and illuminates the body).  The Kozminsky Symbol features a man in prison (Saturn in Libra: the judgment has been made), who is bound, yet reaches for the light and yearns to hear the bird singing. He’s blocked in certain ways, yet is totally free in others as he concentrates on the things he finds beautiful. This Symbol echoes some of the more difficult aspects we’ve been dealing with lately, the Uranus/Pluto square comes to mind.  The urge for freedom runs into the reality of our own imprisonment in the structure of this time; freedom starts with an idea or in the stirrings of the mind and heart as people seek that ray of light/song of release that may first seem to come from outside them, but in time becomes part of their very being.

“Final Release”. It may not feel like it, but we’re in the home stretch. We’re exhausted and feel like we can’t make it, but we find the inner strength to push forward.  It ends, it’s over, we can release all fears, negative feelings and sadness and begin again. It won’t be without regrets, but after we’re through it, we’ll feel so much lighter. The imprisonment is at an end. Whatever we’ve been entangled in, which no doubt has a long history, no longer has a hold on us. We can write a new story, a new ending, to the old saga and we understand that the traumas of the past no longer entrap us. The nightmare is over, time for a new dream.
